Heat stimulates blood circulation and lymph flow and improves the extensibility of tendons and ligaments. It relaxes tense tissue and accelerates the cleansing of the body in the injured region. Due to the improved circulation, the tissue is supplied with nutrients and waste products are transported away more quickly. In order to relieve tension, for example by a one-sided load, heat therapy is recommended. An advantage of warming ointments is that they do not restrict the ability to move and can therefore also be used during sporting activities. Especially in the cold season and during wet weather conditions heat also helps to warm up the muscles and can thus be used as preparation before sports.
