Basic Knowledge Hand Hygiene - 1 of 2

Most pathogens are transferred directly or indirectly via the hands of healthcare workers. Hand hygiene consists of 4 elements of which one is hand disinfection. High compliance in hand disinfection is a very important step to protect patients from acquiring health-care associated infections. Intact skin is an important prerequisite for a successful and effective hand disinfection.

This hand hygiene training series consists of 2 modules that build on each other.

In basic knowlege hand hygiene I, you will learn:

• The 4 elements of hand hygiene
• When and how to perform hand disinfection
• The difference between hygienic and surgical hand disinfection
• Requirements for an effective hand disinfection
