What kind of wounds can RespoSorb® Silicone Border be used on?
RespoSorb® Silicone Border is suitable for the treatment of wounds with all levels of exudate, including acute wounds (traumatic wounds, burns, post‑operative
wounds) and chronic wounds (ulcers, pressure sores, cancerous wounds, diabetic foot ulcers).
What types of exudate can RespoSorb® Silicone Border be used to manage?
RespoSorb®Silicone Border can be used on varying levels of exudate, including thin or thick exudate.
Can RespoSorb® Silicone Border beused on deep wounds?
If there is more than a 2cm depth to the wound, a primary dressing may be used to help provide intimate wound contact. If the wound requires debridement, a primary dressing such as HydroClean® Advance can be used underneath.
Can I use RespoSorb® Silicone Border over the top of antimicrobial dressings?
Yes, RespoSorb® Silicone Border can be used as a secondary dressing over primary dressings such as antimicrobials. It is also the perfect partner to use over HydroClean® Advance when the main treatment aim is debridement.
Do I need to use a wound contact layer?
No, you don’t need to use a wound contact layer underneath RespoSorb® Silicone Border dressings. The dressing itself has a silicone wound contact layer, allowing easy application and painless, atraumatic removal. This is especially important for patients with fragile skin and helps prevent MARSI (Medical Adhesive‑Related Skin Injuries).
How long can RespoSorb®Silicone Border be left in place?
RespoSorb® Silicone Border can be left in place for up to 7 days and can manage moderate-to-high levels of exudate. The dressing should be changed if exudate reaches the border of the dressing.
Can my patients wear this dressing in the shower?
Yes. These dressings have a shower‑proof backing that allows patients to shower while wearing them.
Will it be painful for my patient when I change the dressing?
The dressing is composed of a silicone adhesive, which helps prevent slipping and supports application. Dressing changes can therefore be carried out almost painlessly.
Can I cut the dressing?
You can cut the transparent adhesive border if required; however, the pad itself must not be cut as this will damage the integrity of the dressing.
Can my patient apply this dressing themselves?
RespoSorb® Silicone Border is ideal for shared care. It is easy to apply and remove, allowing patients to fit dressing changes around daily living. This should be agreed with the patient and be in line with local Trust guidelines. Further support is available at sharethecare.info.
Can RespoSorb® Silicone Border be used on infected wounds?
RespoSorb® Silicone Border can be used on infected wounds, but not as the primary antimicrobial treatment. RespoSorb® Silicone Border should be used as a secondary dressing. An appropriate primary antimicrobial dressing (e.g. silver, iodine, honey, or HydroClean® Advance where debridement/ biofilm removal) is required.
