FORUM main campaigns International Infection Prevention Week, 13-19 October International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) is also held in October and has been highlighting the importance of infection prevention every year since 1986 [4]. Under the auspices of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), IIPW aims to educate both healthcare workers and the public that everyone can help prevent infections [5]. World Hand Washing Day on 15 October Celebrated annually since 2008, Global Handwashing Day (GHD) is organised by the Global Handwashing Partnership [6]. The aim is to encourage people around the world to wash their hands with soap, especially at critical moments. As this is a simple, effective, and almost universally available method of preventing infection, the focus of the day is on schools and public institutions, although healthcare facilities can also play their part. Again, hand hygiene should be seen as a whole and is complemented by hand washing [7]. Clean Hospitals Day on 20 October In contrast to the WHHD and GHD, the Clean Hospitals Day focuses on environmental hygiene in hospitals, with an emphasis on surface hygiene [8]. The day is organised by the Clean Hospitals Competence Centre and has only been in existence for a few years. Its aim is to make hospitals cleaner and safer places for everyone. The campaign calls for the generation of scientific knowledge and the exchange of information to develop training and tools. The idea is to promote the idea that hospitals should be seen as a holistic health environment. 13-19 OCTOBER 15 OCTOBER 20 OCTOBER 5. https://www.hartmann-science-center.com/en/top-issues/campaign-days/international-infection-prevention-week-2024 (accessed on 07.10.2024) 6. https://globalhandwashing.org/global-handwashing-day/ (accessed on 17.09.2024) 7. https://www.hartmann-science-center.com/en/top-issues/campaign-days/global-handwashing-day-2024 (accessed on 17.09.2024) 8. https://cleanhospitals.com/ (accessed on 17.09.2024) 21
