The day is observed every year on 5 May, as the date symbolises the five fingers on each hand. The campaign is primarily aimed at healthcare professionals who practice hand hygiene on a daily basis. However, as the COVID 19 pandemic has shown, the issue affects everyone. Therefore, other groups of people who are indirectly involved in this work environment or in their private lives are also included. For us at HARTMANN, infection management is a high priority. This is why the Day of Action is particularly important to us. We are supporting the campaign with educational materials to help achieve its goals of better hand hygiene and fewer infections [2]. Preventing infections: the Overview of the campaign days As nosocomial and other healthcare-associated infections are a global problem, there are many international days of action and campaigns dedicated to infection prevention to raise awareness of appropriate preventive measures such as hand hygiene. With so many campaigns, it is easy to lose track. In this article, we present the most important days of action and the organisations behind them that are committed to preventing infections. World Sepsis Day on 13 September World Sepsis Day (WSD) was celebrated for the first time in 2011, with the theme ‚Prevent sepsis - save lives‘, to fight this serious condition. Sepsis is one of the leading causes of death from infections, killing more than 11 million people worldwide each year [3]. The main aim of the WHO-sponsored day of action is to prevent infections in the first place, for example through hygiene and vaccination. 5 MAY 13 SEPTMBER 20
