Things you always wanted to know about plasters

Should small wounds air dry or be covered with plasters?
It used to be a common assumption that wounds dry better in the air. However, this thinking has long since been refuted. The reason: When wounds dry in the air, a thick, scabrous crust forms, which hampers rather than promotes wound healing. (> Link zum Artikel “The wound healing process”) A plaster on the other hand has a positive effect on the wound, as it prevents the ingress of germs and supports a moist wound environment.
How often should I change the plaster on a small wound?
Plasters should be changed regularly – depending on what kind of wound it is and where it is located. For body parts such as the finger, where the wound can be easily contaminated, plasters should be changed preferably daily. In other parts of the body the plaster can stay on longer if the wound is healing well and does not feel warm, itch or burn. You can find more information on wound treatment here. (> Link zum Artikel “First steps with small wounds”)
When should a doctor be consulted?
A doctor should be consulted if
• the wound is very deep and does not stop bleeding,
• it has been caused by an animal or by another human being
• it is severely contaminated
• the wound doesn’t heal after a while and still hurts, bleeds or swells
• you are not sure if the tetanus vaccine has to be refreshed
What should I do if a wound is infected and festering?

If a wound is not properly cleaned, there is a high risk of infection. If the wound is not only wet, but also swollen or red, or if it itches or burns, then a doctor must be consulted.

Which products are particularly suitable for sensitive skin?
For sensitive skin, make sure that the plaster can be easily removed without damaging the skin and that the adhesive is hypoallergenic. Also, it should be air-permeable. Especially recommended is DermaPlast® SOFT (> link zur Produkt-Seite), which is soft and pleasant on the skin.
What is the advantage of an air-permeable plaster?

The plaster should be air-permeable so that the skin hydration can escape and there is no moisture accumulation which could lead to a swelling of the skin.

Why are there plasters in different shapes?
In some areas of the body, such as the palm or between finger spaces, it is often difficult to attach a plaster more permanently – it simply doesn't stick. Their special shape and flexibility make it possible, for example, to use the DermaPlast® FLEXIBLE finger plaster mix (> Link zur Produktseite) to take care of wound areas where plasters usually don't stick well.
What kinds of plasters should I always carry with me?

That depends on what your needs are. For sensitive skin, you should have DermaPlast® SOFT plasters with you. If you have small children, DermaPlast® KIDS is recommendable. On the way to the swimming pool, DermaPlast® AQUA is the right choice. In the office, if you want discreet protection, you should have DermaPlast® TRANSPARENT with you.

When you visit the product overview of DermaPlast®(> Link zur Produkt-Range), you will see the entire range at a glance and will quickly find the right plasters suitable for you.

Why is the adhesive of DermaPlast® plasters hypoallergenic?
The adhesives in plasters can cause allergic reactions with some people, such as itching and redness. This mainly affects children, seniors and people with sensitive skin. The adhesive surfaces of the DermaPlast® plasters (> Link zur Produkt-Range) are hypoallergenic and skin-friendly, so that the risk of an allergic reaction is significantly reduced.
When should I use spray plaster?
A bleeding or wet wound should be covered with a classic plaster. However, once the bleeding has stopped and if a wound is not wet, a spray plaster can be used. It protects the wound from moisture and dirt from the outside and ensures that it can heal well. Spray plasters are useful when a wound is rather large and superficial or when the body region is very hairy. DermaPlast® PROTECT SPRAY + (> Link zur Produkt-Seite) dries quickly, it is water-resistant, air-permeable and has a UV sunscreen. The plaster does not have to be removed from the wound – it just disappears after a few days.
Why are plasters so important to children?
If you stick a plaster on even the slightest scratch, it has an enormous emotional effect for children – especially if the plaster has a colourful motive like DermaPlast® KIDS (> Link zur Produkt-Seite). On the one hand the procedure of sticking the plaster gives the child the feeling that someone is taking care of her or him. On the other hand, the wound is covered and thus no longer visible. Both ensure that the tears quickly dry.
