Nurse pushing patient around hospital in wheel chair

MediSets®

The benefit in daily patient-care

MediSet® is a range of care procedure trays that covers the most major hospital care procedures. But they are serving more than just medical supplies. Pre-packed sets for standardised care protocols serve less complexity and, last but not least, time. Time for nurses to spend on what’s most important: the patient. This was their purpose when they were developed and first sold back in 1998 – and it remains to be their purpose ever since.

Serving needs from the beginning

In the late 1990s, large medical scandals involving patient safety occurred in France, such as the transfusion acquired infection. This really drove the topic of patient safety in both medical circles and the broader public. Subsequently it paved the way for ready-to-use care procedure kits that are only used once per patient and treatment. Nowadays we are facing the dangers of nosocomial infections that are transmitted during a hospital stay or treatment in a nursing home. We are sadly counting about 3.8 million Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) in Europe per year.

Complete, right at hand and sterile: Each year HARTMANN helps more than 10.000 hospitals across Europe with MediSets® to make the patient care safer and more efficient – in health care institutions as well as when treating patients at home. These pre-packed trays save time that is much better spend on the patient’s needs, reduce errors in patient care and help reducing contamination risks as they are complete and sterile. These main product families cover the most frequent healthcare procedures and serve their cause:

It’s a matter of time

Especially in healthcare time is sparse. Minutes or even seconds can decide about life or death. Nurses can work up to 12-hour shifts, starting early in the morning and seeing up to 65 patients while doing that. Pre-packed MediSets® save nurses the stress time of collecting all the single pieces together. And since it’s all right there: no step of the procedure is going to be left out out of convenience or lack of time. So by providing components like hydro-alcoholic gel for disinfection or an extra drape we make sure that nurses can do their job quickly, efficiently and safely – in hospitals, nursing homes or when treating patients at home.

Preventing infections together

Now more than ever we know about the importance of preventing infections. HAIs have been a huge danger long before the COVID-19 virus spread throughout the world. And we have known for some time: Following the correct procedures in hygiene can prevent the spread. Specifically regarding healthcare-associated infections, it is estimated that about one in three of these are preventable. And MediSets® are contributing greatly to that purpose. The pre-packed sets are sterile and contain the instruments and equipment necessary for a number of different care procedures placed in the right order for the procedure. Therefore, nurses are more implied to adhere to standard operating procedures as their composition has been precisely defined to fit the corresponding protocols.

Saving costs, saving lives

Medical facilities such as hospitals are constantly under high cost pressure. And it is essential where cuts are made. To believe that MediSets® are not up to date because they are only used once is wrong. Furthermore, sterilization of reusable products is far more expensive and costly*. MediSets® are the alternative that can actually reduce hospital costs – while not only saving time but also reducing contamination risks.
