This year‘s slogan is: „Why is sharing knowledge about hand hygiene so important? Because it helps stop the spread of harmful germs in health care.” As the transmission of harmful germs can be prevented by effective hand hygiene, sharing knowledge about this topic is as relevant as it was 15 years ago when the day of action was first celebrated. The aim of this year‘s campaign was to further expand the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals (HCPs) - primarily through effective training on infection prevention and improving access to training [1]. Hand hygiene knowledge transfer thrives on repetition The importance of continuously raising awareness of correct hand hygiene and compliance has been clearly demonstrated in long-term studies over 4 and 5 years [2, 3].
